OVERVIEW

First Baptist Church of Sonoma, CA is seeking its next faithful Pastor. They are a historic church positioned in the heart of Sonoma, CA. Sonoma is a beautiful city of about 11,000 residents one hour north of San Francisco. They are a smaller church in the midst of revitalization, but the Lord has blessed them financially to be able to provide for their next Pastor and his family. They are looking for the following doctrinal commitments in their next Pastor:

  • Commitment to the centrality and sufficiency of the Word of God

  • High view of God and His sovereignty in salvation (Reformed soteriology)

  • Expository preaching as the normative means of proclaiming God’s truth

  • Complementarian view of men and women and a commitment to biblical sexuality

  • Ministry that is Christ-centered and gospel-focused in both doctrine and practice

  • Affirmation of the Baptist Faith & Message 2000

  • Ties to California or the Western United States and a long-term commitment to the region (Preferably)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ministry Background: At least 3 years of Pastoral Ministry (Preferably)

  • Preaching/Teaching: Proven ability to handle the Word faithfully and apply it pastorally

  • Shepherding Orientation: Demonstrated care and connection across generational lines

  • Character: Qualifications of an elder in accordance with 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1

  • Leadership: Reputation for managing his household well and leading effectively in the church

  • Education: a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or greater from an accredited seminary (Preferably)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Public Ministry of the Word: Regularly preach and teach the Scriptures (~48 times per year) with clarity, depth, and pastoral sensitivity, while providing leadership to discipleship groups

  • Private Ministry of the Word and Prayer: Provide pastoral care through biblical counseling, prayer, visitation, regular hospitality, and personal discipling relationships

  • Shepherding: Walk with God’s people through all seasons of life and faith, offering encouragement, correction, and biblical perspective

  • Equip the Saints: Cultivate an every-member ministry mentality, encouraging and equipping the body for gospel service

  • Worship Leadership: Plan and participate in leading public worship services that bring glory to God and joy to God’s people

  • Evangelism: Commit to regularly sharing Christ with the lost in Sonoma

  • Prayer: Commit to regularly praying for the church and the lost in Sonoma
