Associate Pastor
OVERVIEW
FBC of Laurel, Maryland (between DC & Baltimore) is looking for a full-time Associate Pastor to serve their 365 members. This position will focus on pastoral/shepherding care for the congregation in concert with the Elders. This ministry role will focus on proactive member care, developing corporate discipleship structures, providing 1-1 discipleship, and building out a biblical counseling culture. The ideal candidate will also be a part of the regular preaching rotation and become an elder within 6-12 months. Candidates must be committed to reformed theology, complementarianism, historic Baptist beliefs and ministry principles, and have developed teaching skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Meets the qualifications of an Elder in 1 Timothy 3
In agreement with FBCL’s doctrine, values, and philosophy of ministry
Spends time in prayer and Bible study on a daily basis
Applies the gospel to all aspects of life
Willing to become an active member of First Baptist Church of Laurel
Possesses a M.Div. or better from a reputable seminary
Committed to historic Baptist ecclesiology and practice (9Marks/Pillar DNA)
Has the ability to connect and build relationships with church congregants and leaders
Excellent teaching and communication skills
Thrives in leading in a multi-cultural environment
Experience in casting vision, setting goals, and administrating a ministry
At least 10 years in ministry leadership (ideal)
Commitment to and training in biblical counseling (ideal)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Congregational Care
Responsible, in coordination with the Executive Pastor and Senior Pastor, for overall discipleship vision, strategy, and tactics
Oversee 1-on-1 Spiritual Formation
Build and oversee an overall visitation ministry focused on shut-ins, the sick, widows, and our neediest elderly
Maintains availability for regular crisis and discipleship counseling including proactive counseling and crisis counseling
Responsible for overseeing, re-developing, and strengthening missional communities by mentoring, training up, and holding MC leaders accountable.
Pastoral Responsibilities
Serves as an elder after an interim period and does all things within the oversight of the elders
Participates regularly in teaching during Equip nights and Adult Bible Fellowships
Preaches, at minimum, 4 – 6 times a year in the preaching rotation
Administrative Tasks and Special Projects

This is a full-time, salaried position with a pay scale of $70,000-$90,000 depending on experience and training. The ideal candidate can start Spring or Summer of 2026.
