Financial Partners for Pastoral Residency

OVERVIEW

Grace Baptist Church in West Asheville, NC operates a 12 to 18 month pastoral residency that they call an immersion in the life and leadership of Grace Baptist West Asheville. They invest in qualified men who are seeking to be invested in by their elders and congregation and sent to plant, replant, or revitalize a church in the mountain region of Western North Carolina. They ask residents to raise funds that they match up to what they have available. The purpose for the fundraising is two-fold: 1. To stretch their matching dollars, and 2. To give the resident more ownership of the investment (more skin in the game). In order to sustain the viability of the residency, they need to increase available matching funds. They seek to "buy" as much of the resident's time during his 12 to 18 months with them, so that he does not have to work as much outside the church, enabling them to invest in him more and better and commission him faster. Their first residents have lived in other counties and have driven from an hour away to save money since living close to the church is cost prohibitive. Their residents make great sacrifices and are sent well-prepared and they could take on more residents, as demand is high, if they had matching funds.
